PRISM 2.0
In 1999, IDEAlliance founded the PRISM Working Group to
address emerging publisher requirements to utilize
standardized metadata to facilitate content management,
aggregation, and search.
Since that time, the PRISM
metadata framework has been broadly
implemented by both magazine and journal publishers.
PRISM 2.0 is the first major revision in the
specification since its initial release in 2001.
This major revision addresses new requirements
for publishers and media companies to deliver content in
an online and multimedia environment, as well as in
print.
New features in PRISM 2.0 include:
- Added Profile Three for PRISM
XMP
- New controlled vocabularies
have been added for PRISM Compliance Profile, PRISM
Genre, PRISM Aggregation Type, PRISM Resource Type,
PRISM Platform and PRISM Role
- A prism:role= attribute and
prism:place= attribute have been added to dc:creator
and dc:contributor to facilitate more granular
encoding of creators and contributors and their
datelines
- prism:category has been
replaced with prism:genre and prism:aggregationType
- The attribute platform= has
been added to elements such as prism:originPlatform
platform=, prism:teaser platform= and

favor of more specific prism: date fields

deprecated due to lack of specificity to cite
another source
- The element dc:coverage has
been deprecated in favor of prism:timePeriod that
more precisely describes the metadata field used by
WG members. A
pim:timePeriod was also added.
- The element
prism:receptionDate has been deprecated in favor of
prism:dateRecieved to more precisely describe the
metadata field
-
PRISM relations elements that were originally based
on work undertaken by the Dublin Core Metadata
Initiative and documented in the Relations Working
Draft [DCMI-R] have been deprecated. See PRISM
Introduction [PRISMINTRO] for more details
